Hosting visitors

Hosting visitors
En résumé : Some phrases to help you through the visit

🏭 Hosting international visitors can be stressful—even when you think your English is good enough.

Many of my former students come to me after a factory visit feeling disappointed in themselves. They tell me, "I thought my English was good enough, but when the visitors arrived, I struggled."

My answer is always the same: that's completely normal.

In a real business situation, you're dealing with pressure, unfamiliar accents, technical vocabulary, and the desire to make a good impression—all at the same time. It's very different from practising in a classroom.

I always tell them that the first few times can feel uncomfortable, but one day it will become as natural as riding a bike. The words will come more easily, your confidence will grow, and you'll focus less on the language and more on the conversation.

Patience is the key.

It's easier said than done, of course. I know because I've felt exactly the same frustration myself.

Here are a few simple phrases that can help break the ice when welcoming visitors:

🇫🇷 Bienvenue dans notre usine.
🇬🇧 Welcome to our factory.

🇫🇷 J'espère que vous avez fait bon voyage.
🇬🇧 I hope you had a good journey.

🇫🇷 Comment s'est passé votre trajet ?
🇬🇧 How was your trip?

🇫🇷 Puis-je vous offrir un café ou quelque chose à boire ?
🇬🇧 Can I get you a coffee or something to drink?

🇫🇷 N'hésitez pas à poser des questions pendant la visite.
🇬🇧 Please feel free to ask questions during the tour.

🇫🇷 Quelles sont vos premières impressions ?
🇬🇧 What are your first impressions?

🇫🇷 Travaillez-vous actuellement sur des projets intéressants ?
🇬🇧 Are you working on any exciting projects at the moment?

🇫🇷 Merci d'avoir pris le temps de nous rendre visite.
🇬🇧 Thank you for taking the time to visit us.

Every conversation, every factory tour, and every business lunch is another step forward. Keep going.

Have you ever left a meeting or customer visit feeling that your English let you down, only to realise later that you understood far more than you thought?
